Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (Ontario Teachers') is excited to declare the selection of Pierre Cherki as Executive Managing Director, Real Estate, starting from January 22. This newly created investment leadership role at Ontario Teachers' will supervise its internal real estate asset group, set to be launched on January 1, 2024. Mr. Cherki will be situated in Toronto.
In June 2023, Ontario Teachers' unveiled a transformation in its real estate investment approach, incorporating Cadillac Fairview's global investment professionals into its in-house team, in harmony with the strategy employed across Ontario Teachers' other investment asset groups. While Cadillac Fairview will continue to be integral to Ontario Teachers' global real estate portfolio, emphasizing the expansion, diversification, and densification of its unparalleled real estate assets in Canada, the move builds upon its established reputation and track record as a frontrunner in this domain.
In his role as Executive Managing Director, Real Estate, Mr. Cherki will be responsible for directing Ontario Teachers' worldwide real estate investment and portfolio management endeavors, leading a team of nearly 40 investment experts situated in Toronto, London, Singapore, Dallas, and São Paulo. As of June 30, 2023, the total valuation of Ontario Teachers' real estate portfolio, encompassing assets managed by Cadillac Fairview, stands at $29.3 billion.
With over 25 years of experience in real estate, Mr. Cherki brings a wealth of expertise to his new position. His extensive career was primarily with DWS Group, a major alternative investments manager with a substantial global real estate portfolio. During his tenure, Mr. Cherki held various senior management roles, including Global Head of Alternatives, Global Head of Real Estate, and Head of Real Estate, Europe and Asia Pacific. His familiarity with Cadillac Fairview's operations and international portfolio was further enhanced by his board membership at Cadillac Fairview since 2022.
Mr. Cherki's educational background includes a bachelor's degree in Management and Economics from Tel-Aviv University, followed by an MBA from Northwestern University.
